In the Philippines, the warm embrace of hospitality has long been a hallmark of the nation as Filipinos.

In the effort to further elevate the country’s reputation for service excellence, the Department of Tourism Region 2, in collaboration with Isabela State University-Angadanan Campus, hosted the “Filipino Brand of Service Excellence (FBSE) Seminar” to empower the next generation of hospitality professionals on October 26, 2023 at ISU-AC’s Multipurpose Hall.

This seminar not only aims to instill a renewed sense of pride in Filipino hospitality but also to further align with SDG 4, which seeks to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education for all. It was attended by third and fourth-year students pursuing careers in Hospitality Management.

Over the years, the Philippines has been globally renowned for its warm-hearted people and their welcoming spirit. However, to sustain and enhance this reputation in the highly competitive field of global tourism, there is a need for comprehensive training and awareness regarding service excellence. The FBSE Program, spearheaded by the Department of Tourism, Regional Office 02, seeks to reinforce the core values of Filipino hospitality.

In the context of SDG 4, this program not only offers theoretical knowledge but also equips students with the practical skills required to provide world-class service. By doing so, it bridges the gap between the country’s rich cultural heritage and modern customer service expectations.

The day commenced with an inspiring invocation by Ms. Lalaine Molina, Tourism Operations Officer I, and an acknowledgment of esteemed guests and participants by Asst. Prof. Crist B. Bartolome, Chairperson of the Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management Program. Prof. Dr. Oscar G. Bangayan, ISU-Angadanan’s Campus Administrator, welcomed the attendees. Ms. Lalaine Molina then introduced the resource speaker, Dr. Gretchen A. Jallorina, a Regional FBSE Trainer-Level 1.

Dr. Jallorina navigated the attendees through an array of topics which encompassed the “7Ms of Filipino Values,” a workshop on “Delivering Excellent Service and Using the GUEST Technique,” and a talk on “The Heart of Service Recovery.”

The seminar culminated with a “Declaration of Commitment” from the participants, signifying their dedication to upholding the principles of Filipino service excellence. During the closing ceremony, participants had the opportunity to provide post-workshop evaluations and feedback, shedding light on their impressions of the seminar. Certificates were awarded to the participants, as well as the resource speaker, recognizing their dedication to elevating Filipino service standards. The event concluded with a closing remark by Ms. Jenifer D. Galanza, a BSHM faculty member.

The “Filipino Brand of Service Excellence Seminar” not only rekindles the spirit of Filipino hospitality but also propels the country toward achieving SDG 4. By imparting knowledge and skills through various seminars like these, students are empowered to become beacons of Filipino hospitality, ensuring that they maintain a positive attitude even when faced with challenges. It is a crucial step towards reaffirming the nation’s standing as a land of warm-hearted and exceptional hospitality.
