Under the inspired leadership of the Campus Director for Sociocultural Affairs, Asst. Prof. Jefferson C. Pascual, and in close collaboration with the Supreme Student Council, ISU-AC triumphantly secured the coveted first place in the systemwide Lantern Making Contest.

The lantern of Isabela State University Angadanan Campus embodies the strength and unity that binds our campus and the Municipality of Angadanan – a partnership forged with the fires of camaraderie, fueled by a shared vision and a purpose. Additionally, it serves as a radiant reflection of the deeply rooted faith and God-centered values embraced by the people of Angadanan.

The Municipality of Angadanan is renowned for its vibrant Gakit Festival, a celebration that revolves around a vital element known as “gakit”, which in Gaddang means a raft. On its own, each bamboo pole is seemingly insignificant, incapable of floating steadily on a river or serving as a means of transporting people or goods. However, when these poles are skillfully intertwined, they unite as a resilient raft capable of navigating both tranquil and tumultuous waters.

Similarly, the lantern has been intricately designed with bamboo poles to represent a bridge towards achieving our collective goals. Crafted from an assortment of indigenous materials sourced from within the municipality, it stands as a powerful emblem of our connection to our indigenous heritage, reinforcing the importance of unity and resourcefulness in our journey toward success.

The six people placed on the six corners represent the colleges and departments, each playing a distinct and crucial role in our institution, while the images of Mother Mary and Christ serve as powerful symbols of our unyielding faith and spiritual foundation, providing guidance and inspiration in our academic pursuits.

On the other side of the parol, the logo of Isabela State University takes center stage, prominently framed by a star, serving as a visual representation of our collective aspirations and efforts towards the pursuit of “one star, one goal.”

ISU-AC is set to compete in the National Parol Making Competition in the coming weeks.
