With the belief that “every learner must be a reader”, Isabela State University participated in the Brigada Eskwela sa Pagbasa of the Department of Education through its extension project held at Barangay Bantug Angadanan Isabela this April 1, 2022.
Dr. Judith E. Daracan, the project’s proponent, together with other professors from ISU-Angadanan and several BSE students, provided their support on behalf of the ISU-AC to initiatives that aim to rekindle students’ passion in reading and help them become independent learners.
Mr. Jhay Vent Perez, a BSE 4th year student who acts as the story teller for grades two to four, and Ms. Melody Villarta, a BSED 4th year student who serves as the story teller for kindergarten and grade one, lead the reading session.
Meanwhile, following the story-telling session, the professors and BSE students conduct a one-on-one reading tutorial with the students, in which they teach them how to read correctly, emphasizing the importance of including emotion and feelings while reading, as well as understanding and comprehending what they are reading.
Aside from the readers, parents, teachers of the said institution spearheaded by its Head Teacher, Mrs. Olive Laburera and Barangay officials of Barangay Bantug leaded by Hon. Marcela M. Ricardo also showed their support and participated in the reading program.
Aside from the extension project, Education students also started their initiative of adapting one learner on their respective barangays as they continuously support this program of the DepEd that aims to help every learner to be a reader.
