On Tuesday, September 10, 2024, a research symposium was held at the Multipurpose Hall of Isabela State University Angadanan Campus (ISUAC) in response to a request from Odizee School of Achievers, Inc. (OSAI) to support their Grade 12 students.

With the theme โ€œHarnessing Data for Innovation: Advancing Knowledge through Quantitative Research,โ€ the symposium aligned with the studentsโ€™ applied subjects, specifically Practical Research 2, which is essential for their advancement into college.

After the warm welcome by Dr. Oscar G. Bangayan, ISU-AC Campus Administrator, and the opening remarks from Ms. Judy Ann N. Villaflor, Assistant OIC Principal of OSAI, the symposium officially began, focusing on quantitative research.

Dr. Romel Cristobal, Campus Director for Research and Development, shared his knowledge of the basic concepts and types of research, emphasizing the importance of quantitative research for students taking their first steps as researchers.

Following this was a discussion on composing Chapter 1, which includes the problem and its background, led by Dr. Franklin A. Samonte, Director of CCVRC4ITE, together with Dr. Junar N. Caluya, a faculty member of the Bachelor of Science in Industrial Technology program.

A comprehensive discussion on writing Chapter 2, the Review of Related Literature and Studies, was presented by Dr. Ronie Torres, Chairperson of the Bachelor of Science in Industrial Technology program.

Chapter 3, Research Methodology, which covers research instruments and design, respondent selection, data collection procedures, and statistical treatment of data, was discussed by Assoc. Prof. Eugelyn R. Felix, BSEd Mathematics Coordinator, and Dr. Crist B. Bartolome, Chairperson of the Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management program.

Finally, Dr. Benjamin E. Bulawit, Chairperson of the Bachelor of Science in Information Technology program, concluded the discussion on research by providing an in-depth understanding of research tools and their applications.

An open forum followed, led by Dr. Lilibeth L. Gumpal, Campus Director for Extension and Training Services, to address participants’ questions related to the symposium’s topics.

Before the closing remarks by Ms. Sharmaine P. Ruiz, OSA Senior High School Coordinator, certificates and tokens were awarded to participants and officials from both ISUAC and OSAI.

The research symposium not only enhanced the research skills of Grade 12 students but also aligned with Sustainable Development Goal 4: Quality Education, by providing them with the tools and knowledge necessary for academic and professional growth. Furthermore, the event highlighted the importance of partnerships, reflecting SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals), as it was organized in collaboration with OSAI. This joint effort fostered a learning environment that promoted innovation and research, ultimately contributing to a sustainable future through education and collaboration.
